KwaZulu-Natal Horse Trails

Keen to experience the thrill of riding through an African landscape with a hot sun on your back? The Kingdom of the Zulu has a variety of horseback adventures to offer through exciting terrain – from mountain slopes to bush, forests and beaches.

There are many stables all over the Kingdom of the Zulu offering horseback adventures from short outrides to overnight excursions. Many of them are on guest farms and holiday resorts which offer horse riding as one of the optional activities for visitors.

The following is a list of some of the most well known horse trails in KwaZulu-Natal.

Beulaland Cottage
Approximately 25kms from Estcourt, 6kms from Weenen Game Reserve.

Thatched cottage in the heart of the African bushveld. Game viewing and bird watching. Peace and tranquility.

Dlangala Reservations
Situated in the Umkomaas Valley 45 min from Pietermaritzburg and 90 min from Durban.

Spectacular outrides and weekend trails in the Umkomaas Valley wilderness area. The memory of this experience is priceless. Guided by an experienced Bushman - an educational and fun time for all.

Giant's Castle Trail On Horseback
Hillside outpost, N/West of the reserve.

Conducted all year round except for the months of June, July and August. Trails are of 3 or 4 days duration. Only accomplished riders are advised to apply since these are horseback trails. Casual day rides are also available.

Situated in Balgowan a mere 25km from Howick.

Ride with us through farmland and forest on quality horses in the beautiful Natal Midlands. Advanced booking is essential. We operate 7 days a week.

Sengani Horse Trails

Spioenkop Game Reserve
Ride among the wildlife in the reserve, which includes white rhino and giraffe, with views that stretch from acacia savannah to the peaks of the Drakensberg Mountains in the distance. The reserve is part of the landscape where the Anglo Boer war was played out and visitors ride under the shadow of the famous battle site at Spioekop mountain.

Tree Fern Cave
Hillside campsite. Giant's castle area, near Estcourt.

The cave is reserved for horse riders. Camping is not permitted in the game reserve
